Cosmetology student braiding hair

Cosmetology

The Cosmetology program begins with an exploration of the many areas of the personal care industry. It is about meeting clients' needs and wants, designing images, and improving health and appearances. It is a unique blend of the fashion and design industries in which science and problem-solving are used to improve the health and beauty of people. With the exception of the introductory program, this course is a college level course that requires registration with the New Hampshire State Board of Cosmetology. This allows a student the opportunity to gain post-secondary credit while in high school. Developing skills in hairstyling, nail care, skin care, esthetics, and customer service are balanced with learning the chemistry, anatomy and science of the hair, skin, and nails. Students are assessed on classroom and salon participation, core competencies, research papers, presentations, and projects.
